Flax

    linoHistorical Overview

It comes from the region of the Nile, Euphrates and Tigris rivers.

Flax was witness to the beginning of the human civilization. It has been cultivated and valued for 5,000 years, when Egyptians already used this seed as food. Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician, nowadays considered “the father of medicine”, already recommended flax seeds due to its laxative properties 2,500 years ago.

Flax is cultivated in almost all kind of weathers, in Canada, Egypt, Argentina, Spain, France, Russia and even Switzerland.

It has natural antioxidants, and when in contact with water, its carbohydrates form compounds that improve nutrient absorption in the digestive system.

Seed infusion and maceration are used to treat gastrointestinal conditions (colitis, dysentery, constipation, gastritis, inflammation, hemorrhoids and ulcer) and genitourinary conditions (cystitis, gonorrhea, urinary inflammation and infection, nephritis).

Celiac individuals can consume it because it does not contain gluten.
